What Can I Do in October?

AEP is fast approaching us, just like it does every year. You probably have spent the last few months taking AHIP, certifying with carriers for the products you’ll sell, and organizing yourself so you can have the best AEP yet. October is only a few days away so we’ve broken down the Marketing Do’s and Don’ts for October 1st – October 14th.

Between 10/1 and 10/14 Agents CAN:

  • Enroll clients into plans for the current year with an 11/1 or 12/1 effective date if allowed by the election period.
  • Distribute an enrollment kit for the upcoming plan year containing applications that have your producer ID on it. However, the client cannot enroll in a plan until 10/15 or later.
  • Discuss benefits for the upcoming plan year with your client requesting an 11/1 effective date.
  • Begin marketing activities (such as informal, group, and in-home presentations) highlighting benefits for the upcoming plan year.
  • Make appointments to meet with your client on or after 10/15 to accept applications for a 1/1 effective date.
  • Utilize sales presentation for the upcoming plan year for 11/1, 12/1, and 1/1 effective.
  • Host sales events discussing benefits for the upcoming plan year.
  • Follow-up with clients once a compliant consent-to-contact has been captured.

Between 10/1 and 10/14 Agents CANNOT:

  • Solicit, accept, collect, mail, or hold any applications with a 1/1 effective date until 10/15 or after.
  • Inquire about or suggest a client complete their upcoming plan year enrollment.
  • Walk a client through an application for the upcoming plan year or help complete an application for the upcoming plan year.
