UIG Gamechanger Joyce Berg

After 31 years of being in the insurance business, Joyce Berg, Senior Insurance Specialist, as she likes to call herself, continues going strong in the Medicare market. Joyce loves selling Medicare policies to people, she really cares about their well-being and loves being able to educate them on Medicare, Final Expense, and Nursing Home policies. And, they consider her the Senior Insurance expert in their area with all the answers.

A mother to 6 kids, 20 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren, Joyce decided she would go back to work when her youngest was a junior in high school. Her husband wasn’t thrilled with the idea, so he offered to pay her $100/month (30 years ago) to continue to stay home! She took it…but when an insurance agent came knocking on her door and sold her a policy, she told the agent, “Hey, I can do that!” And 10 days later, she was licensed and ready to sell!

Joyce recalls, with a smile, her first week out selling door-to-door. She was greeted by a woman who wasn’t very happy to see them, the lady opened the door, said she was tired of people knocking on the door, and slammed the door right in her face. Joyce’s seasoned partner said to her “follow me” and they ran around to the backdoor and knocked again. When the same woman opened the door, Joyce’s partner said, “Oh, I’m so glad you’re not the same lady who answered the front door, she was so mean to us!” The woman welcomed them into her home and they immediately sold her a policy!

Now, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Joyce doesn’t have to go door-to door, all she has to do is set up shop in a local diner and they come to her! When asked what her favorite part about being an agent is, she says, “Oh the people, the people are so wonderful. I appreciate them so much and they really appreciate the time I take to explain Medicare to them.”

Joyce is the #1 Independent Agent for selling Humana policies in Michigan at UIG and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. “The encouragement Libby gives to me is so wonderful. I can always depend on her to help me out, whether it’s my certifications or anything else I may need, she is there for me.”
