Should I Join an FMO?
If you’re just getting started in the insurance industry, you may hear other Medicare Insurance agents talking about their FMO and you may be wondering if you need an FMO too. There is so much information out there when you’re first starting off, but finding the right FMO for you may be one of the best decisions you can make for the success of your business.
What Does an FMO Do?
A Field Marketing Organization (FM0) is a company that provides independent insurance agents, or agencies, with insurance and marketing services. Most FMO’s are contracted with the top carriers and offer these products to independent insurance agents in most states. Top FMO’s in the senior insurance market offer agents many of the same services, which include, sales training, contracting assistance, marketing support, extra back-office support, representatives, and even incentives are some of the top benefits an FMO can offer you.
UIG gives agents the tools they need to successfully, and efficiently, run their business. From the top-notch service from a dedicated representative, who knows your market and intel for your geographic area, to an online quoting and enrollment tool that frees up your time to focus on your clients.

Why Not Contract Direct with a Carrier?
You might be wondering why shouldn’t I just contract direct with the carrier, right? Some carriers would require an agent to guarantee them a certain profit, which is very hard to do as an independent agent. Most carriers prefer you to work with an already established FMO due to the volume of business and relationship that has already been proven. FMO’s can offer you the best contracts and offer a great selection of products so you can better serve your clients.
Will an FMO Take Part of My Hard-Earned Commission?
Agents often think that by going with an FMO, instead of going direct with a carrier, they are losing a portion of their commission to them. That cannot be further from the truth. Not only are agents paid at the highest street level they can get you at, you’re obtaining the extra training and support at zero cost to you. The carriers will then pay the FMO’s an override, it’s basically the carrier paying the FMO to train and educate you on their products and Medicare in general.
