Original Medicare Doesn’t Cover Everything
The Value of Selling a Complete Benefits Package
As Independent Insurance Agents who sell Medicare, we all know how confusing the Medicare world is. It’s even more confusing to those who are turning 65. They may not even realize how much there is to know and what their actual coverage may look like, especially if they are transferring from an employer-paid plan to Medicare. It’s important to let them know, no matter what they choose, Original Medicare, Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage, they may still have significant out of pocket expenses.
Developing a complete benefits package for your clients that includes ancillary coverage such as Hospital Indemnity, Cancer/Critical Illness, etc. may help them cover the costs of additional services they may need.
Here’s a list of services Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not cover fully and some Medicare Supplements or Medicare Advantage plans may not completely cover either:
- Dental Care
- Routine Eyecare and Eyeglasses
- Alternative Medicine – such as Acupuncture and Chiropractic Services
- Prescription Drugs
- Cosmetic Surgery
- Hearing Aids
- Long-Term Care
- Personal Home Care
- Routine Foot Care
- Overseas Coverage
